The Courtyard Theatre

Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire

The 1000+seat Courtyard Theatre opened in 2006 as a temporary home for the RSC throughout the Transformation project.

It provided a full-scale working prototype for the new RST's thrust stage auditorium, and remains open following the Transformation, with Matilda, A Musical playing until 30 January 2011. It will also be used for the World Shakespeare Festival as part of the Cultural Olympiad in 2012.

The Courtyard Theatre was built on the site of The Other Place (TOP), the RSC's home for new and experimental work. Options to reinstate TOP are currently being developed and will be put out to consultation in spring 2011.
